Using the Application Accessibility Evaluator 1.0
The Application Accessibility Evaluator 1.0 (AAE) is designed to evaluate and report the compliance of ANY Desktop Application with Microsoft's® Active Accessibility API (MSAA.) The AAE IS NOT intended to evaluate the Accessibility of Websites!
The AAE evaluates Microsoft® Windows Desktop Windows. To make an evualation, start the AAE:

The AAE will "dock" to the right side of your screen:

With the AAE opened, you are ready to analyze an Application Window! To do so, make sure you have the Application Window you wish to evaluate in the foreground (that is - the Window to be evaluated should be selected.) Then, click the "Analyze Current Application Window" button, or alternatively, select the AAE Window and press ALT-A.

The AAE may take several minutes to analyze the selected Window, depending on its complexity and the speed of your computer. Once completed, the AAE will display an Average Accessibility Score, and will populate the AAE Object Accessibility Browser. By navigating the AAE Object Accessibility Browser and selecting any object, the selected object will BOTH have its scoring details displayed just below AND the AAE will draw a visual "Hilighlight" box around the selected object (the color of the "Highlight Box" will reflect the evaluated Accessibility score.)

Objects are scored according to their MSAA "Accessible Role." Scoring Details for the selected Accessible Object include information about how that object was scored in the form of Scored/Possible-Score, as in "(20/40)". Objects not implementing the specific MSAA property at all are given a zero (0) score for that property, objects implementing the the MSAA property yet not providing a usable value are given a 50% score for that property, and objects both implementing and providing a usable value for that property are given a 100% score, according to the defined rules. To see and or adjust the Defined Scoring Setting for the selected "Accessible Role," click the "See Scoring for XXXXX Role" link in the details secion. Alternatively, to see/edit all scoring rules, select "Define Scoring Settings" (ALT-D) from the AAE "Options" menu (ALT-O).
Reporting the Accessibility of the Application Window
Once the above described Application Window Accessibility Analysis has been performed, the AAE is capable of generating a XHTML (web) report for documentation purposes. To do so, simply select "Generate Report" from the AAE "Options" menu (alternatively, focus the AAE and use the ALT-G keyboard shortcut.)
Use the standard "Windows Save" dialog to choose a location and filename for your generated XHTML report (note that a sub-directory within your chosen location will be created to store related images, and will automatically be named "{your_chosen_filename}_images/".)
Your XHTML AAE Window Accessibility Report will automatically be opened with your default browser.
